News about the TVBS/CTS/Ruby Lin produced The Way We Were (16個夏天 / 16 Summers) had been floating around for a while and finally it started filming recently!!! Back in May last year during the TVBS launch of its drama division, The Way We Were was announced to be the third drama being made by TVBS (the first two being Dragon Gate and Kiss Me, Mom!). I guess with Ruby’s busy schedule this project was delayed.
The Way We Were covers the span of 16 years (hence the Chinese title – 16 Summers) and follows our five leads – Ruby Lin, Leroy Young, Tiffany Hsu, Melvin Sia and Jason Zhou in three time periods, 1998, 2008 and the present. The photos released to the media today are from their 1998 timeline – when our leads are 20 years old.
I know Ruby looks really young for her age but HDTV is very unforgiving lol. Leroy and Tiffany both have a more ‘mature’ look so it is a bit of a stretch? Jason Zhou can probably pass for 20, maybe it’s the haircut! It’s totally the Takuya Kimura / Takeshi Kaneshiro / Ekin Cheng look so popular in the 90s. As for Melvin Sia, sorry – I’m still laughing! Almost didn’t recognise him.
I am so excited to see Melvin Sia back in the TW drama scene again! Although Dragon Gate was pretty horrible, he was one of the reasons I kept watching (despite having so little screentime!). After Dragon Gate, he filmed a TW made for TV film with Lin Mei Xiu and a drama back in Malaysia but I’m glad to see him in a TW drama again. 🙂 It looks like Ruby/Leroy will be the leads but let’s hope Melvin gets a decent storyline too.
I thought this would air in the Sunday night timeslot after Rock N’Road (its third episode just aired and unsure of the total number of episodes…) but Wikipedia is telling me otherwise so we’ll just have to wait and see? Maybe the Friday timeslot? Apparently Lovestore at the Corner will be airing on CTS from the 18th April so maybe The Way We Were will follow? !
