[Upcoming TW Drama] Constellation Series: Aries with Xiu Jie Kai, Janet Hsieh, Chloe Wang and Patrick Lee

This drama has been on my radar since it started filming in late July. The reason is (of course) one of my favourites – Mr Xiu Jie Kai is the lead. 😀 Who knew I had a serious weakness for dimples and arms? I miss him on my screen!!! (Even though I only completed Marry or Not a couple of months ago, after seeing the pics below the fangirl fire has reignited.)

The pics are not from the drama. They’re from his promotion tour of Black & White 2: The Dawn of Justice which is premiering in China on October 1st. What has Jason Tsou been doing? He looks so tired!

Gosh, the need to seek out XJK stuff even has me digging up an old drama – Four Gifts (2010). The reviews were not so good but he was exceptionally hot in it. (Think police officer in a motorcycle who for some reason wears sleeveless tops a lot.) Then I realised I actually saw some of it before but just don’t remember LOL. But still, even though I’m just watching his scenes, it’s totally worth it.

So I thought I didn’t have to wait long before his new drama Constellation Women Series – Aries Woman (it’s the literal translation of 星座女人系列-牡羊座的女人) since it was scheduled to air after You Light Up My Star on FTV. However, I just saw on the news today the airing date has been pushed back because the next drama in the “Constellation Women Series”, which will focus on Taurus Woman has been delayed. So who knows when they will push it back to! Damn. You Light Up My Star hasn’t been doing so great ratings wise (at least the monetary investment isn’t generating the ratings they need) and I’m not in a position to comment on that drama either since I haven’t gone past episode 2.

There isn’t a lot of information about this drama – is there a synopsis yet? I guess the title is pretty telling, but apart from a drama about a woman with the Aries star sign, we know:

  • Xiu Jie Kai will be play an architect.
  • Janet Hsieh portrays a magazine editor.
  • There will be kiss and bed scenes between Janet and Xiu Jie Kai.
  • Chloe Wang’s character is a famous actress.
  • Patrick Lee will portray an owner of holiday resort who pursues Chloe.

If the name Janet Hsieh doesn’t ring any bells that’s because this is her first drama. She is a Gold Bell Award winning host and famous for her travelling shows, outgoing personality and as she was born in the US, her Mandarin has a pretty strong accent. TBH the stills released so far aren’t super enticing, but it might be more interesting if there was a noona-dongsaeng element to it. (Janet is 3 years older than Xiu.) But then in Marry or Not, Tian Xin was 7 years older and they didn’t really explore that anyway.

Here’re some more stills from filming and hopefully there’ll be more information about this drama soon!

When is Xiu Jie Kai going to the military? I love to see him on screen and all but it bothers me even more if an actor I like does not do his mandatory military duties. This is the part where the actor Mike He, IMO, is such a wuss. I don’t like Mike He in general but learning that he avoided his military duties until he is almost 30-ish and then when you finally think Taiwan is going to ship him off to the military, he goes and claims he has some kind of medical injuries and thus he is exempted from the military. I think that is just some BS excuse and it makes him a wuss. I don’t want to have to think of Xiu Jie Kai that way, which is why I would like to know if he went to the military or not.

Interesting point I was just thinking about this since I read this article a few days ago which mentioned he had a pretty bad period in his career. He didn’t have any jobs and had to sell noodles with his mum for a couple of years. I wouldve thought that was the perfect time to go into the military right? But still he didn’t. Havent heard any updates lately about this…

Well I hope he has plans for the military soon if he had not already done so. The man is 31 years old now. Isn’t the cut off age for every guy to fulfill his military duties 33? The time in the military is not even that long. They shortened it to 1.5 years now compared to South Korea who has to do 2 years.

I thought it’s even shorter now, like a year or 11 months? Yeah that’s no excuse to avoid it.

He should go out to the military w/o causing much fanfare. That’s what Joe Cheng did and that is why he is The Man! Back then the media listed Joe Cheng, Ethan Ruan, Ming Dao, Mike He, and Xiu Jie Kai as the male celebrities who are avoiding the military by citing school as the reason as to why they aren’t enlisting. However with Ethan and Ming Dao I have to give them two some credit b/c they did eventually go and Joe Cheng major credit b/c he went quietly and chose to serve in the Marines unit, which I heard is a very hard unit. Mike He is on my shit list. All that is left is Xiu Jie Kai. I hope he is not planning on picking up another project after this one and just enlist like he is supposed to. If the military is truly for a year only, I doubt Taiwan is really going to forget him. Xiu Jie Kai is not A-list actor yet but it’s not like he is an unknown actor in the industry either.

Yeah I checked on the dates and both Joe Cheng and Ethan Ruan were enlisted for about a year, and to be honest XJK is not as famous as Joe/Ethan was when they enlisted. XJK gives me the impression he’s a pretty fit guy who runs / hits the gym rather often, so surely there can’t be any ‘health reasons’. Even if there was he can still enlist and do a desk job.

I’m just so hung up on a celebrity going to the military b/c I see it as that person is finally becoming a MAN. In my eyes, XJK is already a hot hot man but if he goes enlists, he’ll be an even hotter respectable man. It’s like a boy going through his bar mitzvah and then suddenly he is no longer a boy but a man. It’s a rite of passage.

I completely agree with you! I also take the view that if the rest of the TW population have to do it, then just because they’re celebrities doesn’t mean they can avoid their duty.

Saw some pics from the Black & White 2 movie and XJK totally rocks as a military man (his character is in the special forces or something?!?!). If filming was as hard as the casts had been saying… then actual military service can’t be that bad right LOL.

It’s probably not. At least you come back with army abs. Not doubting that he doesn’t have abs now, but it’s more defined and that’s always a plus!

Been watching this drama. Chole and Patrick storyline seem interesting. I would like to watch to see how that plays out. As for Janet and XJK their storyline is a bit boring. Maybe because Janet’s acting is pretty boring. I don’t feel any charisma coming from her.

I’ve been watching this too but… hrm, I find the Chloe/Patrick storyline completely dysfunctional and wondering how anyone is suppose to feel sympathy for him. Yeah the Janet/XJK is probably more along the “typical” lines but they’re ok. Janet is definitely awkward in her first acting role, it’s like she’s always struggling to read her lines.

Omg! Janet’s acting is so boring. I fast forward when she comes on screen. I agree that Chole and Patrick relationship is very disfunctional. Like he raped her, but she is still with him. But he seems to love her a lot.

I don’t know whether Patrick ‘loves’ Chloe at all, he’s like obsessed with her. And at this point she’s just playing along since he has the photos… but she still wants to be with Xiu Jie Kai though.
